ROCKY LED THE THREE remaining riders on a merry chase through traffic and across grassy lawns; basically wherever the opportunity presented itself. The giant dog had seemingly disappeared, although a pack of dogs had momentarily given chase in one block. Rocky had outrun them just before Freyja joined him from a side road.

“I thought you were going to waylay them,” he shouted over the roar of their Harley’s.

“They would recognize me, so that is useless,” she shouted back. “I joined this engagement so as to be with you, my love,” she smiled.

“Damn, I can get used to being called that,” he grinned back.

Then Freyja did something so amazing Rocky almost wrecked his bike. Shifting to neutral at 45 mph is no mean feat, but she did it. After which; she spun around on the seat while drawing her dagger and flung it straight into the heart of the closest rider, some 30 feet behind them.

The rider grabbed the hilt, and the Kawasaki hit a parked car. The bike caromed off the car into the street, crossing the road and bouncing off a parked truck before tumbling back into the middle. The other two pursuers slowed to avoid being caught up in the commotion.

Rocky watched the whole thing entranced, and nearly hit a parked car as Freyja spun back into the saddle. She reached over and grabbed his Cut, yanking him away from his collision course.

“Thanks, babe,” he yelled.

The two remaining riders were once again closing the gap, and Rocky pointed toward a small park coming up on their right. “We need to open the gap without losing them,” he called.

Speeding ahead of her, he dashed between two cars on his right, soliciting blaring horns and shouted curses. Freyja was right behind him as they both roared into the quiet park. The pursuing riders had to stop and maneuver through the now snarled traffic jam Rocky had created. Plus, they couldn’t make the same speed across the grassy playground as the better-equipped Harleys.

On the other side of the triangle-shaped park, the road curved right and headed back north. Reaching the paved surface, Rock and Freyja screeched onto the street and rolled their throttles wide open. Freyja’s Fat Bob would have easily out-performed Rocky’s older Dyna had he not already built the motor for performance. The two tore up Madison Avenue like a pair of bats out of Hell, with two fast sportbikes right behind them.
